Here's my answer for the question "whom do you admire most"
He is quite handsome in the first place. If you disagree with me please ignore the following.
Second, we are LAO XIANG. He was from Ningbo, Zhejiang, and my father’s father’s father was also from Ningbo. I ever visited his native place in Fenghua, Ningbo—a very beautiful and quiet place.
The third reason, which is also the most important, is that he has his place in China’s history. Let’s put it this way—divide his whole life into 2 parts—the first part ended in 1949 and the second part started when he was ousted by the PLA to Taiwan. I think the second part of his life was quite successful in terms of both economy and politics. Taiwan’s prosperity is, in a large part, attributed to his effort. In other word, Taiwan is not what it is today without him. Obviously he drew lessons from his failure when he was the president in Mainland China.
I have reservations, like many people, about what he had done to China before 1949, but, at least, he had his part in the war against the Japanese—in this sense, he was patriotic. When he was in Taiwan, he never thought of separating Taiwan from the Mainland, while the leaders in Taiwan today always attempt to practice separatism, which is contrary to all Chinese people home and abroad. So in this sense, he was admirable. I have ever read a biography about Jiang’s life written by an American years ago. If you are interested, you may find some books about him so as to have a better understanding of his whole life…
P.S. it is said that Song Meiling fell in love with him at first sight…
The best answer I can expect from you probably is as follows:
“I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it (by Whom? Sorry I forget it)
Cheers,
