A Controlled Prospective Study of Family Education for Bipolar Disorders

【Abstract】Objective: To study the effect of family education f or bipolar affec tive disorders. Method: The family education group (75 cases di agnosed as bipola r disorder) accepted family education on the basis of pharmaceutical therapy. 7 3 patients with the same diagnosis accepted pharmaceutical therapy only were desi gned as control. The time of follow up was 3 years. Results: U sing survival anal ysis, the three-year cumulated remission rate was 60.0% in family education gro up, and was 34.5% in control group. This difference had statistic significance (x2=13.79, p<0.01). Conclusion: Family education can redu ce t he rate of relapse in patients with bipolar disorder.
